The Viking amulet of protection and power.
Vikings wore the Thor's Hammer as an amulet of protection and power. It became increasingly important after the introduction of Christianity in Scandinavia. By then it had grown into a symbol of the wearer’s faith in the Norse gods, countering the Christian crucifix worn by missionaries and converts. In today’s world, the Hammer of Thor can be worn as a way of honoring one’s Viking heritage, as a religious statement, or, quite often, just as a piece of good looking jewelry with a rich history.
Thor’s Hammer, Mjölnir (English: Crusher), is a powerful symbol of Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. Thor is a righteous god of great might and girth, whom mortals regard as the protector of mankind. His hammer, Mjölnir, was capable of levelling mountains and was so heavy that no one else was able to lift it from the ground.
This section contains both accurate reproductions of authentic Hammers of Thor, as well as pieces that have undergone an artistic development.
All Hammers of Thor are, unless otherwise specified, supplied without a neckchain or leather thong. You can find both variants in the Neck Chain category.
