Evolving over a millenium of exposure to the sub-Arctic climate, Icelandic wool is unique in that it consists out of two types of fibres. The inner fibres are fine, soft and highly insulating while the outer fibres are long, glossy and water-repellent. Therefore products made of Icelandic wool are extremely durable, lightweight and breathable. They keep you warm, comfortable and dry.

Icelandic wool is unchanged since 874 AD when Vikings settlers first arrived to Iceland and brought with them the very same sheep that still roam the island. The shearing, spinning and carding crafts in use today have altered little through the ages.
Wool is purchased directly from farmers, after which it is taken to a washing plant in Blönduós in the North of Iceland, where the first stage of the process is to ensure the quality and colour of the wool. The next stage is washing, where the use of chemicals and detergents is kept to an absolute minimum to ensure that natural oils are preserved, leaving the wool as warm, light and water-resistant as nature herself made it. Finally, the highest quality wool is selected for spinning into the finest yarn.
