The depiction on this unique horn is a dedication to the heroic spirit of the Norse warrior culture. The fight with the dragon is one of the widest spread mythological motifs, common to many cultures around the world. Of all the stories about dragons we find among the Vikings, the tale of Fafnir, who was slain by the mighty hero Sigurd, is probably the most famous one. The scene between Fafnir and Sigurd is carved into the horn with the purpose to evoke and strengthen the essences of the two adversaries: the wild and untamed spirit of the beast that dwells deep inside every man, and the heroic power and courage required to face and conquer it. Every sip from this horn thus symbolizes a sip of the Dragon’s blood.
