If you are looking for top quality Viking footwear that can withstand heavy usage, then look no further! These boots are made with the same, meticulous craftmanship as handmade modern shoes.
These boots are inspired by a find in Hedeby, Denmark, with the characteristic straps and antler toggles of the time. The original boots have a pointed toe, whilst these have a pointed toe-sole, which makes them more durable to use. The design reveals some of the influence brought back by the Vikings on their expeditions eastward. Viking Age shoes lasted only up to 6 months, so we’ve upgraded the boots with thick and tough leather soles that can withstand a lot of wear an tear. The leather is dyed brown.
- Period: 800 AD to 1066 AD
- Material: Leather and antler
- Color: Brown
- Thickness of sole: 10-12 mm
- Thickness of upper leather: 2-3 mm
- Handmade and therefore slight variations may occur.
Historical shoes obviously do not compare to modern shoes in terms of durability or comfort. Avoid using them a lot on modern surfaces, such as concrete, asphalt, gravel and so forth that can wear down the sole. It is also possible to fit them with insoles to increase durability, comfort and isolation from water and cold. Vikings would have traditionally used thicker wool socks.
